The Bentley S1 was a full-size luxury car built between 1955-1959, by their own factory and independent coach builders, who added their own touches as they they finished assembly. The standard model was a 4-door sedan. Being the first of the series, at the time, it just held the designation of model “S.”
The Continental submodel was an attractive grand tourer, fastback coupe. They had 2 doors.
The Bentley S 4-Door Saloon, for model year 1955, came in versions for Europe and North America. It was a 4-door sedan body type with RWD (rear-wheel drive) and a automatic 4-speed transmission. It utilized a petrol (gasoline) engine with displacement of 4887 cm3 or 298.2 cubic inches. It was quite a large car, with an outside length: 5385 mm / 212 in and a wheelbase: 3124 mm / 123 in. It was also heavy, with a curb weight of 1975 kg / 4354 lbs. Still, it was very fast for its size and class of vehicle. It had a top speed of 160 km/h (99 mph) as declared by the factory. It’s accelerations were also fast, with a 0-60 mph 14.2 seconds and a 0-100 km/h speed of just 15 seconds.
Some sub-models of the S1 are quite rare, especially the left-hand drive models. These can fetch hundreds of thousands of dollars at auction.
