Skylark was a model of cars by American automaker Buick, built between the years of 1953 and 1958. Its 46 year history saw six different editions produced, with greatly varying body styles, engine selections and options. This highly successful car line set new milestones for Buick popularity and notoriety.
The Skylark first made its appearance as Roadmaster Skylark, as one of 3 top-of-the-line, limited-production specialty convertibles, including the Oldsmobile 98 Fiesta and Cadillac Series 62 Eldorado, that were built to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the company. It was the most successful of the three, with 1,690 units sold, so it got promoted to a brand model in its own right.
The Skylarks came out as two-door convertibles on a frame that was shorter than its predecessors. It still came with the big 322 cu in (5.3 L) Nailhead V8 of the larger cars, giving it quite a performance boost.
The 1960s saw the Skylark title expand to cover a 2-door convertible, 2-door hardtop, 2-door coupe, and a 4-door Station wagon. These different flavors came with engine choices of either the big block V8 or a more economical V6 engine.
