The Dart was a car model built by the American automaker Dodge between the years of 1960 and 1976. They belonged to the mid to large-size family car class, representing the “E” (executive cars) market segment.
The car was offered with 2 or 4-door sedan, hardtop coupe, and convertible body types. They were fitted with range of engines of 2789-7206 cc (170.2-439.7 cui) displacement. There were a wide range of power outputs, from 75-317 kW (102-431 PS, 101-425 hp.)
The most legendary of all editions was the ’68 Hurst HEMI Dodge Dart, code L023, which is one of the fastest muscle cars in history. It was powered by a cross-ram 426 HEMI that was rated at 425 horsepower. Its HEMI block was iron with a 4.25 in. bore and a 3.75 in. stroke, 12.5:1 compression, aluminum heads and a cross-ram eight-barrel intake.
Every item that could be left off the car to save weight was omitted, including things like carpet, heaters, arm rests, and even seat belts were left out. As a result, Dodge placed a sticker on the HEMI Dodge Dart that said, “This vehicle was not manufactured for use on Public Streets, Roads or Highways, and does not conform to Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.”
