First introduced at the 1936 Paris Motor Show, the 540K was a development of the 500K. It was available as a two-seater cabriolet, four-seater coupe, or seven-seater limousine. Powered by a revised version of the 500K’s straight-8 engine, the 540K had a very respectable 180hp, which propelled it to a top speed of 110mph. Power was sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, or an optional five-speed. Total production of the 540K was only 419 cars, the overwhelming majority of which were cabriolets. The 540K is now highly sought after, some examples trading hands for well into seven-digit dollars.
