The B6 was a group of cars that was built by by Alpina Burkard Bovensiepen GmbH & Co. KG. Based in Buchloe, in the Ostallgäu district of Bavaria, Germany, Alpina made high performance renditions of BMW cars on the BMW assembly lines, at the same time that BMW’s own models were being made. They were considered a full fledged automaker, as opposed to just an aftermarket tuner. This arrangement benefited both companies and allowed BMW to reach customers who felt performance was paramount.
The Alpina cars did very well in touring car, hill climbing and endurance racing, winning many prestigious races, such as European Touring Car Championship, the Spa 24 Hours and the German Hillclimb Championship. Such performance is why the B6 is so prized by enthusiasts and collectors.
