The Brougham was a line of full-sized luxury cars manufactured by Cadillac from the 1987 through 1992. It was formerly marketed as the 1980 to 1986 as the Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. A “Brougham” was a term that came from horse and buggy days, meaning a coach that was built for 2-4 passengers. Cadillac started using the term as far back as 1916 for their full-size cars that were the 5-7 passenger sedan body style.
This newest incarnation of the Brougham was a 4-door notchback sedan with a FR layout on a D-body platform. The powertrain options included a 5.0 L L02 V8, 5.0 L Chevrolet V8, or a 5.7 L L05/LLO V8. Transmission was a 4-speed TH-200-4R automatic. It was a rather long car with a 121.5 inch wheelbase and a length of 221.0 inches. It weighed between 4300-4500 pounds, depending upon options.
A total of 233,631 units were produced, making it a top seller for Cadillac. They are not particularly valuable yet, due to their young age, but their comfort and styling may eventually make them a worthy classic. Good condition examples are worth snatching up now.
