Differences between the Series One and Series Two cars were primarily due to US importation regulations. Series Two cars can be identified by their wrap-around bumpers, absence of glass headlight covers, enlarged “mouth”, larger indicators and tail lights, and a redesigned dash layout.
Series Two cars were actually down on power as compared to Series Ones. The three SU carburetors used in the Series One produced nearly 20 more horsepower and lb/ft than the two “smogged” carbs in the Series Two.
In four years of production, 18,809 Series Two XKEs were produced.
