About the 1986-1993 Lancia Delta Integrale

The Lancia Delta Integrale was a small sporty family car based on the Lancia HF series of cars, designed by Italian car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro and his Italdesign team. These turbocharged 4-wheel drive cars had great success in the World Rally Championship series races. Many of the race-winning innovations used in the rally cars were put directly into production autos that anyone could buy. The result was a set of fun cars that brought the thrill of rally cars to a daily driver.

The introduction of the first Integrale model brought a 8-valve 2L fuel injected 4-cylinder engine and full time 4-wheel drive and a front transversely mounted engine and five-speed transmission. Other changes included a larger Garrett T3 turbocharger with improved airflow and heftier inter-cooler. The horsepower was boosted to 185 bhp. Minor body changes gave it wider wheel wells to accommodate bigger wheels and a wider bumper incorporated air vents and new running lights.

1989 brought the HF Integrale 16v with better engine performance. It had four valves per cylinder and could produce 200 hp. It could do 0-100 Km/h in speedy 5.7 seconds and it had a top speed 220 Km/h. Mechanical changes included a new hydraulic clutch, torque split mostly to the rear, ABS brakes, wider tyres and wheels.

In 1992, two special edition Integrale cars were built to commemorate rally championship wins. These were designated as the “5” and “6” cars. They came with a white paint job with Martini racing stripes, a black spoiler, black bonnet grills, white rims and Racaro racing seats. A 1993 special edition car, the Delta HF Integrale 16v, aka the Evolution II, with power output increased to 215 Bhp.
