About the Mini Cooper MKIII

The Mini Cooper had its roots in auto racing. It was built so that the company could follow the racing rules, which said that at least 1000 cars had to be built to participate in competition. This sporty little car became one of the most influential cars in history. It is an icon of British motoring.

One of the best versions for collectors and enthusiasts is the Mini Cooper 3rd generation. The 848 cc (51.7 cu in) engine from Mini-Minor car by Morris. It was given a longer stroke to increase capacity to 997 cc or 60.8 cubic inches, increasing power from 34 to 55 bhp (25 to 41 kW).

Cooper also produced two S models specifically for circuit racing in the under 1,000 cc and under 1,300 cc classes. They were rated at 970 cc (59 cu in) and a 1,275 cc (77.8 cu in), respectively. These version gave more speed and torque than standard versions. 1500 of the Mk3 Cooper S versions were made, making them desirable by collectors.
